God’s Purpose in Your Life

The first question in Operation Timothy is about Life Purpose and one of the last questions in Book 3 talks about Life Purpose. I always make sure that my Timothys finish the course by developing their own Life Purpose Statement, because it was such a transformational exercise in my own life. My Life Purpose is to lead others to experience the Abundant Life of Jesus Christ, particularly businessmen, particularly Hoosiers.

What’s yours?

The Book of Ephesians is very helpful in understanding the importance of a Life Purpose Statement.

The Apostle Paul tells us, in Eph 1:3-4, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him.

The fact that God chose us indicates that He has a purpose for each one of us. It indicates that He has made us significant, and should cause us to ask, “Why did you choose me, Lord?”

This is confirmed in Eph 1:11 when it says, ...also we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to His purpose who works all things after the counsel of His will.

Pauls says in Eph 1:18-20, I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,…

God has a calling for each of us, which will be revealed by the enlightening of the eyes of your heart. That calling is our salvation, which gives us the comfort of a future hope, when we will become an inheritance for God, but also, a power, in this life, for the work that He has for us.

We see the work in the next chapter, where, in 2:10, we are told that,…we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

God has things for us to do! He has created us for a purpose, to do certain tasks, that no one else has ever done, and which no one else will ever do! He has a particular plan laid out for you, which no one else can do! No wonder you are significant! God has a purpose for you!

What is it?

That is for you to determine! That is why it is so important for us to study God’s Word, apply it in our lives, and learn Who He Is! Only then, can we determine what that special purpose is for us!

CBMC does have a helpful process to guide us in determining our Life Purpose Statement. That’s how I discovered mine! Check it out!
