Transformational Leadership

I had the privilege of attending the Truth at Work Conference on Transformation last week. We heard billionaire David Green sharing about giving away 50% of his profits every year. Cheryl Bachelder pointed to the three tenets that helped her turn around the Popeye’s chain, and Casey Crawford told about starting Movement Mortgage in 2008 and turning it into a 100-million-dollar concern.

 

They emphasized their faith in God and shared the tough times that brought transformation in their lives. They shared valuable principles about the importance of vision, focus, serving, and hope.

 

Later, I heard, Be a voice who speaks truth, and The most important person is the one in front of you.

 

In between, I got to shake hands with Michael Jr, and tell him I’m one of his greatest fans! At lunch I had the opportunity to experience, on a much smaller scale, everything that I had learned in the morning!

 

I chose not to wait in the cold at the food trucks, outside, and drove to a shopping area to check out the restaurants. I decided on a little storefront that featured Italian take-out. When I walked in, I only noticed one table, and it was taken. I walked along the glass case with the food options, and a lady behind the counter asked what I wanted. I asked her for suggestions and she said everything was good.

 

I chose lasagna and she placed it in a container before I could ask her if she could heat it for me. She calmly described the time-consuming process for preparing it, and further explained that eat-in customers usually ordered spaghetti and meatballs, which could be heated in the micro-wave.

 

I decided to take the lasagna home and ordered spaghetti and meatballs for lunch. She prepared my food, writing the heating instructions on the lasagna container, and told me we would check out after I finished. I saw some pistachio pastries, so I told her I wanted two of those to go with the lasagna.

 

The food was excellent! She totaled my order and bagged it, and I asked about the pastries. She had forgotten those, so she gave them to me, no charge!

 

While I was eating, I was marveling at how well she had treated me, and I felt led to tell her how I felt. I told her about the Conference and that we were learning about servant leadership, which she had been demonstrating to me. She told me she had a home business and she attended leadership conferences, regularly. We exchanged cards, and I will see if she contacts me to get this article.

 

Leadership is for everyone! You don’t have to run a big corporation to lead with love, and to serve others. Leadership is about sharing the truth in love and treating the person in front of you as if they are the most important person in the world. Yes, you must perform all the tasks that are required in your industry, and you have to have a quality product, but the most important thing is to treat people the way Jesus would..

 

Heb 10:24-25  …let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, …assembling together, …encouraging one another;…
